SCUBA DIVING CERTIFICATION

Scuba Diving Certification

Scuba (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) diving is certainly not for everyone but if you are reasonably fit and fairly comfortable in the water, you can learn to safely manage the inherent risks of breathing compressed gas (usually air) underwater. The dive industry generates revenue with a self-regulated system comprised primarily of small retail stores and resort-based dive centers that require recreational divers to be formally trained and certified, however, there is no law against scuba diving without certification.  In theory, you could learn to dive, buy your own scuba equipment including a compressor and bypass the dive industry certification system entirely. Some do, but for most people, it is more practical to learn to scuba dive with a dive center or independent instructor affiliated with one of the major certification agencies.
