Ocean Management Systems Scuba Manifold

Ocean Management Systems has announced a recall of all OMS Rotating Cross Bar Manifold due to reports of undersized O-rings that can cause a loss of breathing air leaking from a cylinder.  No injuries have been reported.

According to the CPSC recall announcement (see below), the inflators are manufactured in Italy and distributed by OMS in New York.

The recall affects OMS manifolds sold from from December 2003 through September 2004.

Owners of OMS manifolds affected by the recall should return the units to their local dealers or directly to OMS.

CPSC, Ocean Management Systems Announce Recall of SCUBA Manifolds

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Rotating Cross Bar SCUBA Manifold

Units: About 140

Importer: Ocean Management Systems, Inc., of Middletown, NY.

Hazard: Undersized o-rings installed on the cross bar can cause a loss of breathing air from the SCUBA cylinder, presenting a risk of drowning.

Incidents/Injuries: There has been one report of breathing air leaking from a cylinder. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves the 200 and 300 Bar versions of the OMS Rotating Cross Bar Manifold. The manifold consists of two valves which have "O.M.S." stamped on the side of each valve and a crossbar that has three O-rings per side. Each part has a black plastic knob.

Sold at: Dive stores nationwide from December 2003 through September 2004 for about $238.

Manufactured in: Italy

Remedy: Affected units will be replaced at no cost to the consumer.

Consumer Contact: Affected consumers are being contacted directly by OMS to arrange for a free replacement. Consumers with affected products who have not been contacted should call OMS at 845-692-3600 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or send an e-mail to kim@omsdive.com
