In July 2005, terrorists bombed Sharm el-Sheikh, a popular holiday destination on the Sinai Peninsula for both divers and non-diving tourists. Over 60 people died and hundreds were wounded in three simultaneous bomb explosions. In October 2004, terrorists attacked Taba, another popular Sinai Peninsula resort, killing 34. Dive travelers may want to consider other destinations as yet unaffected by terrorist violence. Divers who plan to visit the area should exercise extreme caution as terrorists are targeting foreign tourists and further attacks can be expected. |
