Scuba Diving Fiji

Fiji - Cyber Diver Top 10 Dive Destination >>

iji is an archipelago comprised of some 300 picture-perfect islands that straddle the international dateline.  The islands are gorgeous and depending on where you go diving, theoretically, you could dive today, tomorrow and yesterday all in a single dive.  Bottom time: 45 minutes plus and/or minus a day or two.  As Albert Einstein said referring to cobalt blue ripples in the gin-clear space-time continuum, "In fact, time really doesn't matter" (until you get bent on the second dive and try to explain why, after a surface interval of 90 minutes, it preceded the first dive by more than a day). Are you confused yet?

Not to worry.  You're on your third all-inclusive Fiji honeymoon package tour and this time you've got a pre-nup agreement.  And although diving in direct opposition to Greenwich Mean Time (God save the Queen!) can be a bit dicey, everybody agrees on three things: Fiji is the soft coral capital of the world (the hard-coral capital of the world is still up for grabs!), Indo-Fijians have no place in Fiji's tourism industry and gravity sucks.

That's why, after he was hit on the head by a falling apple, Jacques Cousteau invented the scuba diving regulator and his son Jean-Michel became a hotel developer just before he was hit by a lawsuit from the old man for slapping the family name all over one of the world's most absurdly overpriced, overrated and eco-unfriendly hotels.  "Sorry Papa, the financial backers turned down 'Eco Johnny's Scuba Resort' and anyway, I wanna live in Santa Barbara"!

When to Go

Best time to visit Fiji? Between regularly scheduled military coups and definitely during the dry cool winter season from May to October.  That's when the underwater visibility is best and the air temperature ranges from 20 to 26C (68 to 79F). Many also visit the archipelago during Fiji's summer season when short-tempered tourists are prone to sudden outbursts about the oppressive heat and humidity.
